A complete energy healing session is offered to a recipient who is lying on a treatment table. Most commonly, Energy Healing is offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner's hands placed and held on a series of locations on the body. The placement of the hands should never be intrusive or inappropriate.

Additional placements on the limbs can be done as needed.  The Energy Healing practitioner can hold their hands just off the body if needed (for example, in the presence of an open wound or burn).


Many of my clients ask how they can best prepare for and receive the most benefits from their Energy Healing session.

Below is a list to take into consideration both before and after your next session. 

Remember, your Energy Healing session is always catered toward your deepest healing, so finding what works best for you is key.


Before your session:

1. Relax & Reflect

Give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the session to sit and reflect, particularly checking in with how your body is feeling and anything you are noticing with regards to emotions, thoughts or physical sensations.

Take some time to breathe and also tend to whatever your body's needs might be on that given day. You may also want to reflect on any intentions you want to set for your session, and anything you want to share with your practitioner before you begin.


2. Eat & Hydrate

You’ll want to be sure you've eaten and hydrated a few hours before the session, mostly so you will be as comfortable as possible and not distracted by hunger or thirst.

Avoid eating a heavy meal beforehand, however, as you don’t want all of your body’s energy to be directed toward digesting while you’re receiving your treatment.


3. Get comfy

Most practitioners will have you laying down for the majority of your session, so comfort is key for being open to taking on and integrating the healing energy.

Be sure you are wearing comfortable clothes. I usually recommend my clients either wear or bring socks since shoes are removed during the session and the feet can get cold.

You’ll also want to use the restroom before the session, and if the position you are in for your session is uncomfortable in any way, communicate this to your practitioner, as s/he will also want to be sure you are as comfortable as possible.



After your session:

1. Integrate

Many of the treatment benefits can occur as soon as after the session is over and as such, it’s important to find somewhere quiet and relaxing to integrate what may arise.

I recommend that my clients take at least 15-20 minutes after the session to meditate, lie down, go for a walk in nature or even take a nap. Try not to book or schedule anything immediately after your session.


2. Hydrate

After doing any type of energy work it’s important to hydrate, so be sure to drink 1-2 glasses of water after your session. I find adding electrolytes to your water can also be helpful, as it helps to replenish the body.


3. Eat

Energy work is often hungry work, and you may find yourself hungry immediately after your session. Be sure you listen to your body and choose a healthy snack or meal afterward if needed. Eating can also help ground the body and as a bonus, you may find that a piece of dark chocolate be quite restorative.

4. Stretch

After the healing work is complete, much shifts and creates movement within stagnant cells and energies within your body.  To ensure any stagnancies do not settle back into a space of muscle memory, its imperative to keep the energy flowing to support and continue the harmonious flow of energy within and throughout. 


5. Reflect

It’s often helpful to spend some time after the session reflecting, so I often recommend that clients journal, draw or somehow capture any insights they had during and immediately after the session.

You may also decide to meditate afterward or listen to calming and/or inspirational music. Whatever you choose to do, find an activity that helps you connect to what you've experienced so you can draw on it in future.


6. Contact your practitioner

Please get in touch with your practitioner immediately if you experience any overly challenging emotions, physical sensations or issues after your treatment.

Energy Healing is extremely gentle and yet, because energy blockages are being cleared in the body, issues may come up as a result. Find out what the best way is to contact your practitioner, and get in touch if anything feels overly uncomfortable after your session.



What might I experience?


"I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly." "I think I fell asleep." "I can't believe how hot your hands got!" "I feel more relaxed than even after a massage." "My headache is gone." These are some of things people typically say after an Energy Healing session.

The experience of Energy Healing is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle.


People often experience heat in Andrea's hands, but sometimes Andrea's hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations where the Andrea's hands are placed or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body. People often comment how comforting they find the experience of Energy Healing to be. An interesting study reported that recipients frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some people fall into a deep, sleeplike meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Energy Healing is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.


Energy Healing is cumulative and even people who don't notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue. Besides the immediate experience of the Energy Healing, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on: perhaps stronger digestion, a sense of being more centered and poised and less reactive, and sleeping deeply that night.  Andrea may also place crystals or stones on different areas of the body, typically the areas corresponding with each chakra.



What should I do during the session?


Here are a few suggestions:


  • If you have music that you particularly enjoy and which is relaxing, bring it to your session and ask Andrea to play it. You can also request silence if you prefer.  Andrea will have music already as well.

  • Use the rest room before your session so that you are able to lie down comfortably.

  • Especially if you have any shyness about being touched, ask Andrea to show you the hand placements before starting so you are very clear what to expect.

  • Let the practitioner know your needs before you start. For example, if you have trouble breathing and lying flat is uncomfortable, say so. Or mention if you have had surgery recently and don't want to be touched where the scar is still tender (the practitioner can float her hand here). If you are pregnant or have digestive complaints, it may not be feasible to lie on your stomach. Inform your practitioner.

  • As the session progresses, you will feel more relaxed. If you become uncomfortable, you can adjust your position at any time. Relax and listen to your body.  If you feel the need to readjust yourself or stretch and move, Andrea will move with you. This is your session and Andrea wants you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Be sure to ask for anything that will add to your comfort, such as additional support under your knees or a blanket. This is your special time and your practitioner is there to help you. Receiving Energy Healing is a wonderfully passive experience. Don't try to relax, just let the Energy Healing relax you. Your state will shift quite naturally as the session proceeds. Meanwhile feel free to daydream, enjoy the music, or simply observe your breath or the sensations of the therapy.



What happens after the session?


Do not expect a diagnosis, as that is not part of Energy Healing. Some practitioners may make common sense suggestions for after-care, such as drinking water and following your body's needs.

Although people typically leave an Energy Healing session feeling refreshed, sometimes they notice feeling more tired in the evening than usual. This is not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body's natural healing response. People commonly report a sense of calm and mental clarity and sleeping well after Energy Healing.  


***At times, some people experience detox effects from negative and stagnant energy that is being released. Some detox effects can include: fatigue, headache, and flu like symptoms. This is also a good sign that your body's energy is flowing and blockages have begun to be released. This is a great first step in the self-healing process and also why it is so important to drink plenty of water, listen to your body's needs, and continue treatment.



How many sessions should I receive?


Your practitioner may suggest a series of sessions.  Energy healing is not a quick fix and is a great option for long term goals and maintenance of a balanced mind, body and spirit.  Depending on your goals, weekly or bi weekly sessions are recommended but also may need to be more or less frequent based on personal circumstances.  Discuss with your practitioner how best to space the sessions to suit your needs and your schedule. In the presence of a serious health challenge, Energy Healing practitioners often recommend four sessions over four consecutive days.
