There is a considerable amount of research that indicates mindfulness can help children improve their abilities to pay attention, to calm down when they are upset and to make better decisions. In short, it helps with emotional regulation and cognitive focus. Don't we all want that for our kids?

The purpose of teaching mindfulness to our children is to give them skills to develop their awareness of their inner and outer experiences, to recognize their thoughts as “just thoughts,” to understand how emotions manifest in their bodies, to recognize when their attention has wandered, and to provide tools for impulse control. It is not a cure-all, and it will not completely get rid of what is, undoubtedly, normal kid behavior. But, as our children are able to acknowledge and recognize these things, they will have the tools to continue through life with less stress, fear, anger, pain etc, when they learn and practice mindfulness earlier on.

At increasingly younger ages, our kids are facing higher levels of stress, and it may be taking a significant toll on their health. Stressful events in childhood can increase the risk of developing health problems as an adult, but the impact may hit much earlier. A recent University of Florida study found that stressful events can impact a child’s health and well-being almost immediately, and can contribute to the development of physical and mental health problems and learning disabilities.  Mindfulness can offer prevention to the above issues and aids in the response to stressors many of us adults struggle with in our daily lives.

This program is for children ages 6-12 and will be held twice per month on a Tuesday evening, beginning September 13, 2016. Please see calendar below.

Time: 6:30 p.m-7:30 p.m

Investment in your child: $15 per child, per lesson. *Save $5 by pre-paying for both monthly lessons. $25 per child, per month.*

Consistently keeping children engaged in Mindfulness will promote your child/ren to use that awareness, naturally.

We will do different activities/lessons each time, but also discuss and reflect on ones we did prior to see how they relate and continue to use the lessons and benefits in their daily lives. (And yours too!)

I will guide them into bringing their awareness and recognition to their thoughts, emotions, body, and spirit. The lessons will help the children understand how each of those aspects are interconnected and how it can affect our lives and others. Our Mindfulness and Meditation Program will be balanced with a fun activity and a short, age appropriate meditation at the beginning and end of each lesson.
